Week 4 Term 1 2022 Newsletter

Dear parents,

Blue skies and happy faces were the order of the day for Wednesday’s Swimming Carnival, especially if you’re a member of St John Bosco House. It was a great rebound for Bosco, which didn’t win a carnival in 2021. Above all, I was impressed by the willingness to participate whole-heartedly and generosity of spirit that was on display. Thanks to Mr Griffin for his fine organisation of the day and to the many parent supporters who were cheering on.

I would like to offer my congratulations to HSC 2021 alumnus Lucy Ryan who, having attained an outstanding ATAR of 94.2, is the College dux for her year. Congratulations also to Lucy’s classmates who achieved Band 5&6 HSC results: Band 5 Florence Garratt – Ancient History and Visual Arts, Isabel Perry – Ancient History, Biology, Legal Studies and Mathematics Standard, Alice Stewart – Biology, Lucy Ryan – Chemistry, English and Physics, Joshua Wright – Mathematics Standard and Visual Arts, Zhofi Boglari-Davykoza – Visual Arts & Band 6 Lucy Ryan – Biology and Mathematics Advanced.

You’ll note in the diary dates that the Parent Night is confirmed for 17 March, which, of course, is St Patrick’s Day. Please mark your diaries as it promises to be a night to remember with Irish Music and Steve Lawrence from Melbourne as the guest speaker. It will be a break too from Lenten observances and an opportunity to catch up with families new and old.

Warm regards,

Ian Smith

Principal

Student Residential Address Collection

Attached is a letter to parents from the Australian Department of Education, Skills and Employment regarding the 2022 Address Collection.  We ask all families to please ensure that the school has your most current address details to ensure that our data for the collection is accurate.  Please call or email the school office if you have recently moved or have changed your postal address.

Extended Student Absences

A friendly reminder that planned student absences of more than five consecutive school days require an ‘Application for Extended Leave Form’ to be completed by parents prior to the planned leave taking place.  These forms are available through the school office.

For any medical related student absences of more than five consecutive days, a doctor’s certificate must also be supplied to the front office.  This is however not necessary for Covid-19 isolation.

New Compass System

Parents will have recently received an email inviting them to log into our new Compass system which has replaced PAM.  If you have had problems with logging in, please contact the school office.

Make it even easier to stay engaged with the school by downloading the user-friendly Compass App. Both the iOS and Android applications are available to download for free from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.

Magellan for Mother’s Group

The Magellan for Mother’s Group is held every Tuesday at 10.45am during school term at the Holy Spirit Parish Presbytery, Lavington.

Babysitting is available with activities provided for smaller children.  Tea and coffee provided.  Please see Father Heffernan or Angela Firmager for further information.  All mothers of any age welcome.
