2025 Newsletter Term 1: week 10

Dear parents,

A 15-month boy has survived drowning and 52 minutes of amateur CPR owing to the intercession of George Cardinal Pell, according to two reports published in The Australian in the past week.

The initial article was reporting on the launch of Cardinal Pell’s biography by Tess Livingstone, which was held at Campion College last Wednesday week. Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP gave the official address during which he told the story of baby Vincent’s survival; miraculous, say the doctors who treated him in Phoenix, Arizona

One of the interesting points of the story is the coverage it received in The Australian - front page, above the fold on both occasions - reporting a miracle attributed to the intercession of Cardinal Pell.

Why didn’t the editors laugh mockingly at the report, scarcely needing a moment to dismiss it as unworthy of publication?

In 2 Timothy 4:2, St Paul says to preach the word with urgency in season and out of season. Perhaps the seasons are beginning to change and a new openness to the gospel is emerging in people who, knowingly or not, thirst for the truth that Jesus is the Son of God, who died on the Cross for our sins and is truly risen. For this we pray and give witness to the faith God, in His mercy, has given us.

Thank you for your support through this first term. Congratulations especially to Kindergarten parents - you made it! It gets easier from here.

Warm regards,

Ian Smith

Principal
