2023 Newsletter Term 4 - Week 8

Dear parents,

Wednesday's apocalyptic forecast didn't quite materialise. But bringing forward the inaugural House Gala Day to Tuesday proved to be a good call, if only to experience the event sooner rather than later. The day was played in good spirits throughout, with St Francis of Assisi taking out the points in a nail-biting finish.

Among the honourable mentions, the debating teams eloquently fought out a close contest while dissecting the topic, "Technology does more harm than good." After 120 preliminary chess matches, Thomas Garcia proved his mettle to take out the primary championship, and Gianna Irwin maintained her concentration in a sea of precariously poised spectators to claim the high school championship.

There was soccer, netball, basketball and an array of rotating sports and activities in which students took part, culminating in the staff vs student’s volleyball match. Did the wily members of staff overcome their youthful opponents, or did the resolute students stand their ground in the face of a confident and experienced adversary? We may never know, but it was a day to remember and will no doubt become a much-anticipated annual event.

These days never just happen; they take a massive team effort. We are blessed to have staff who go above and beyond in order to enrich SMMC life. Thank you for your support. I look forward to seeing you at Presentation Night.

Warm regards, Ian Smith Principal
