Week 4 Term 3, 2023 Newsletter Pt1
Week 4 Term 3, 2023 Newsletter Pt2
Dear parents,
It was a memorable feast of St Mary MacKillop, celebrated earlier this week. Undoubtedly, the nerf games were a novel highlight. I’d like to thank the Year 11&12 students for their leadership and service on the day. They prepared for and delivered the organised nerf activities, cooked and served the BBQ.
Many students submitted fitting tributes to our school patroness in the Art Competition. From among the very fine entries, Valentina Evans’ (Year 4) painting of St Mary MacKillop has been selected to adorn the cover of next year’s student diary.
This year’s Gala Dinner was, in its own way, also a fitting tribute. There are a great many people who contribute to such an occasion, but I’d like to make special mention of Orla Slee and Chloe Van Der Horst who prepared the items for auction that were so beautifully presented on the night. Thank you to our generous donors whose contributions make such a difference to the service that the school is able to provide.
Warm regards,
Ian Smith
Principal
School Closure Day
The school will be closed on Tuesday 15th August for the Feast of the Assumption, a holy day of obligation in Australia.
Ski Trip
Unfortunately, the ski trip has been cancelled due to a lack of snow.
Subject Information Evening
This year our Subject Information Evening will be held on Thursday 17th August, starting at 5:30pm.
This Evening assists students and parents in making an informed transition from Year 8 into ‘Stage 5’ (Year 9/10), and Year 10 into ‘Stage 6’ (Year 11 and 12). The evening is also essential for current Year 9 students, regarding their elective choices for Year 10. We’ll be exploring the process, structure and options available for subject selection in 2024, using Google Meet as our platform – allowing students and families to join us from the comfort of their own homes.
The session for current Year 8s and Year 9s will commence at 5:30pm; and the session for Year 10s moving into Year 11 will commence at 6:00pm. A link to the Google Meet will be sent out closer to the date, and we look forward to exploring the subject options with you on the night. Should you have any queries in the meantime, please contact us at your earliest convenience.

Taking Control – Mobile Devices and Social Media
1. A friendly reminder that mobile devices are to be left at the front office before school and collected at the end of the day. Under no circumstances are students to have mobile devices in their possession during the school day.
2. Qustodio is a home-based, internet control that is highly recommended. Parents who are searching for a solution may well find it here: https://www.qustodio.com.
Book Week 2023
Book Week is coming up in Week 6 of the term. This year’s theme is Read, Grow, Inspire. Primary students are invited to commemorate the week and the theme by dressing up as a character from a favourite book on Wednesday 23rd August. A primary assembly will be held that day at 10.30am in the Hall, to which parents are most welcome to attend.
