Dear Members of our Community of Faith,

What a wonderful night our school concert was last Friday evening! Thank you to all those who braved the limelight to showcase their talents. Your performances brought much joy to our school. The teacher performance was particularly noteworthy – they’ve been watching! This coming Friday we have a night of fun with Trivia organised by the Yr.12 students to raise funds to purchase their parting gift to the school. The night begins at 6:30pm in the SMMC Hall. See you there!
We have been focussing in on courtesy this week at SMMC, encouraging the students in little things such as saying good morning to teachers and fellow students, and using manners such as pardon me (not ‘what’), excuse me, please and thank you. These little ‘one percenters’ (to use a footy term) really do make a difference to everyone’s day and will hold the students in good stead for their interactions with all people and when they end up in the work force one day. Anna Krohn wrote a great article in the Catholic Weekly recently, quoting someone who said that ‘Courtesy is applied Christianity.’ She went on to say that “Courtesy towards others is a small sacramental way of showing that we believe in charity towards others, even if at times we do not feel it”.
Congratulations
The Cattell Family had a baby girl on Saturday, Faustina Magdalene. A big congratulations on behalf of the SMMC Community! The joy a new born baby brings is irreplaceable. From all the sibling reports, she is going well and getting lots of love and attention. A big congratulations also to Angelus Saliba who made his First Communion at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Thurgoona. Receiving Jesus in the Eucharist is a beautiful gift and one that Angelus can now partake in at every Mass. He said he felt a lot of peace inside during the day.
Uniform
With Term 4 approaching quickly, don’t forget to get in touch with Anastasia Byrnes if you require any Summer Uniform items, which are required to be worn in Term 4.
We continue to keep the Year 11 Students in our prayers as they sit their exams across this week. Please also continue to use the Yr.12 Prayer that was sent as they prepare to sit their HSC Exams early next term. Next week we will hold a number of activities for our Yr.12 students, who finish up with us next Friday 22nd September. A retreat is planned, breakfast with the teachers, sports competition, Nursing Home visit and a final assembly on Friday morning run by the Yr.12 students. The Yr.11 Students will also take part in some of these activities as they transition to Yr.12 next term. They have been a wonderful group of students to work with and we look forward to enjoying our last week together at SMMC.
Thank you to all those parents who have sent in the slip for this Saturday’s P&F Cake Stall. Please drop off your goodies either on Friday at school or early on Saturday morning directly to the cake stall outside the Jindera Post Office. Our Annual School Fete is fast approaching and we need everyone’s support to sell all our Raffle Tickets. There are great prizes to be won!
Please note there will be no Legion of Mary meeting on Tuesday of the first week of Term 4. Legion will resume on Tuesday October 17th and will be the 200th meeting of Legion of Mary at SMMC.
There is only one week left to collect as many Earn & Learn stickers as you can. Please send stickers into the office and we can put on sheets for you!
A reminder to please get your family details sheet back to the school ASAP with changes marked in red pen. We need these in order to keep an up to date data base.
In our Living Out the Faith In Family Life I have included an excerpt of an article by Dr Gerard O’Shea on the Developmental Stages of Children. I will continue to put in an excerpt each week to outline the main
characteristics of children at different stages and how we can meet their needs. If you would like a copy of the full article please let me know.
God Bless, Luke Burton (Principal)
