Dear Members of our Community of Faith,

We are at the end of what has been another very busy week at Saint Mary MacKillop College. The mornings have certainly been chilly and the students have been delighted to find big sheets of thick ice in the bubbler trough most mornings. We even had a stalagmite form on the ground underneath the dripping tap on the corner of the science room! Sofia Cavalletti always said that wonder is evoked by an “attentive gaze at reality”, which is true for children and adults alike.
Last Friday we had an early start for our snow trip to Falls Creek. We were very blessed with a beautiful sunny day and the students had a great time. For many it was their first taste (literally for some) of snow. I congratulate the students on their excellent conduct throughout the day (except throwing snowballs at the Principal). We look forward to next year’s trip! Check out some great photos further into newsletter.
Thank you to the parents who were able to come along to our Term 3 Parent Evening last night. Mary Louise Fowler gave us great insights into the current situation we are facing in having to defend natural marriage. It could only be a matter of a week and a half before we receive our postal vote packs for the plebiscite on marriage. It is crucial we get out and inform people of the consequences that would follow if marriage was to be redefined. If the law was to change, we would be bound by it, which is a frightening prospect. We could no longer refuse the ‘Safe Schools Programme’, we would lose our religious freedom and our freedom of speech. I urge you to do what you can to help. Mary Louise suggested starting with your neighbour and asking them their thoughts on the plebiscite – just get conversations happening, inform people of the reality of what is occurring and get them voting NO. Please make contact if you are able to assist in any way to ensure we preserve natural marriage and protect our future generations. Please have a good read of the attached information relating to marriage.
The inaugural MacKillop Cup was held on Wednesday and what a terrific day it was. The students from both
schools battled hard in all games and in the end Jindera was able to hold the cup aloft with a three matches to one victory. A medal was awarded to a player from each match who most displayed the ‘MacKillop Spirit’. Congratulations to Naomi Burton from Wagga (Primary Netball), Chris Bell from Wagga (Primary Touch Footy), Isabel Perry from Jindera (Secondary Netball) and Josh Petrie from Wagga (Secondary Touch Footy). It was a really positive atmosphere throughout the day and a great opportunity to build some positive friendships with Saint Mary MacKillop Wagga. Next year we will head to Wagga as they try to wrestle the cup from our grasp. A big thank you to any parents who sent along food on the day and for those who helped out in any way.
Congratulations to all those secondary students who have reached Level 1 of the Secondary Welfare Awards System. These students and the families will enjoy dinner at La Maison next Tuesday 5th September to celebrate their achievements.
Next Friday 8th September at 7:00pm is our annual school concert, where students get to showcase their talents. Come along for some great entertainment.
Attached to newsletter you will find a sheet with your family details on it. Can you please use a red pen and make any changes needed, then return to the office ASAP so we can update our database. Thank you.
The Yr.12 Students are running a trivia night on Friday 15th September to raise funds for their graduation gift to the school. Please put the date in your diary and get along for what will be a great night of fun. Flyer is attached.
It has been great to see so many people in the Church each morning praying the rosary for Marriage. This novena will continue each day next week. It would be great if you could join us at 8:55am each morning except for Wednesday which is at 8:10am. Coming together to pray as a community is very powerful.
God Bless, Luke Burton (Principal)
