Dear parents,

The Australian poet, CJ Dennis died three weeks after my own father was born, in June 1938; a fact I would not have known had it not been for our Year 5 students.

Year 5s have been working assiduously on their poetry unit, memorizing and brilliantly performing, Hist by CJ Dennis.

If memorisation has become a lost art in most educational settings, it is making a long-over-due and most welcome come back at St Mary MacKillop College.

Some think that memorisation is mindless parroting, but the intellect remembers so that wisdom may enter one’s heart. So when the Year 5 students recited their poem, they not only informed my intellect, they touched my heart. Thank you Year 5s and their teachers Mrs Ryan and Mrs McFarlane.

Warm regards,

Year 12 Parent Teacher Interviews

We will be holding year 12 Parent Teacher Interviews in the College hall on Wednesday 17th June, from 5:30 – 6:30pm. This is a great opportunity for Year 12 parents to catch up with our teaching staff to discuss their child’s progress and to raise any concerns. Appointments are not necessary.

A Little Reminder – Unwell Children

For the health and wellbeing of our students, teachers and families who attend SMMC, we ask that children who are unwell please be kept home until they have recovered.  Due to the current pandemic, any students who present with cold or flu symptoms at school will be sent home.

If your child/children are away for any reason, please remember to lodge an absence through your PAM account by 10:30am on the day of absence.

School Photos

This coming Monday 15th June is school photo day! Students are to be neatly dressed in full winter uniform, including jumpers and

blazers. Thank you to all families who have already returned their photo orders and payment. We will accept orders until the end of this term only as the photo orders will be processed during the term break.  Thank you.

Friday Mass Is Back!

Due to the lifting of some COVID-19 restrictions, small groups of students have had the opportunity to attend Friday morning Mass last week and today. Parents are welcome to attend Mass but are asked to please keep in mind the current Government social distancing and group number rules and guidelines.

Student Pick Up

A friendly reminder that students are to remain inside the school gate after school until a parent/guardian arrives to collect them. For student’s safety, we ask that parents please come to the small gate to collect their child/ren.

Students are not to be left in the carpark unattended at any time. The teacher on duty will supervise students crossing the road, when walking or riding home.

Please also make note that all students should be collected by 3:40pm, as no staff are on duty at the gate after this time. Please contact the school office if you will be running late to pick up your child/ren. Thank you.

Congratulations to Gary and Tahlia Carcarello on the safe arrival of Pascal. May God continue to bless and watch over your family.
