Dear Members of our Community of Faith,

Click here to download newsletter as PDF

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well. Winter began this week and the weather came to match the season. We are very thankful to Mrs Mott for her generosity in supplying named scarves to all who ordered them! On that note, no more scarf orders will be taken beyond next Tuesday 7th June, so get in quick if you would like one for just $5.

I am away next week, so there will be no newsletter. I have included lots of information this week as the end of the term will be quite a busy time. Please take note of the dates and events. We look forward to sharing with you a busy, but enjoyable, last few weeks of term.

Parent Information Evening

Next Thursday 9th June beginning at 7pm we will hold our Term Two Parent Evening. Patrick and Maureen Coyne will be speaking on ‘Leadership in the Family’. They have presented many different topics in their work with Family Education Victoria amongst other organisations. On Saturday 11th June from 10am – 1pm, Patrick and Maureen will also be running a workshop for parents on the same theme. I really encourage you all to come along. The support we give our spouses and other couples is vital….and it should be a bit of fun. Wine and cheese will be the diet for Thursday night and morning tea and refreshments will be provided at the Saturday workshop. As previously mentioned, I need to be away on my Principal Induction Course during these events, but I pray you all get a lot from them. If babysitting issues are going to prevent you being there, please get in touch so we can help arrange something and enable you to be here.

Olympic Games Gala Day

St Paul’s College, Walla Walla have invited our Yr.5/6s to attend an Olympic Games Gala Day on Tuesday 21st June (Week 9). The day will run from 10am – 2pm and should be a lot of fun! Yr.5/6s need to fill in the note and get it back to the office ASAP. Any parents who are able to assist with transport, please indicate on the note.

Fete Subcommittee

Thank you to the parents who have taken on the role of chasing up fete donations from businesses in our local area. This is a huge job and your generosity is much appreciated. A reminder we will have our next subcommittee meeting on Wednesday 15th June at 2:30pm in the Library. Please come along if you can.

ICAS

ICAS Science was conducted on Tuesday. I learnt a lot from reading the students test papers! Tough stuff. Students participating in ICAS Writing and Spelling are reminded that these will take place in Week 8 after the Long Weekend. Please see dates section.

Assembly

Please lock in Friday 17th June to come along to our School Assembly held after Mass. It is our only Assembly for this term, so we will be packing in quite a substantial amount. It is also our chance to publicly farewell Miss Godwin and thank her for her contribution to our school community. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Campion College Visitor

Dr Paul Morrissey (President of Campion College Sydney) will visit SMMC on Wednesday 15th June and talk to some of our senior students. He will also be giving a talk at St Patrick’s Hall that evening. See attached flyer for more details.

Sports Court Update

The contractor was here last Friday to assess the site for our new sports court. He was hoping to have the concrete slab poured over the next couple of weeks, but the weather may be against us. We will be putting in reversible poles, enabling both basketball and netball to be played. The coating and lines will be completed when the weather warms up in the Spring time. We will have lines marked for netball, basketball, volleyball and handball, which is very exciting! We may need to move the back fence and claim some more land for our soccer pitch. Stay tuned.

I have enjoyed catching up with a number of parents across this week. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss anything. It is always great to talk about doing what we can do to assist our children be the best they can be and a team approach always works best.

Don’t forget we have a long weekend next weekend, so don’t come to school on Monday 13th of June and thanks to the Queen for sharing her birthday with us! Have a great weekend and stay warm.

God Bless

Luke Burton (Principal)
