Dear Members of our Community of Faith,

Welcome to Week 6! We have approached the half way point of the term this week, so it is certainly flying along.

Well done to Isaac Ryan who was presented with a certificate at our School Assembly to recognise his outstanding achievements in the HSC. Isaac was dux of SMMC last year and it was very fitting to have Mr Tingle present him with his certificate!  We wish Isaac all the very best for his future endeavours.

Mother/Daughter Camp

It is a very exciting time for our Mothers and Daughters as they head off to Harrietville tomorrow. We trust they will have a really positive, enjoyable time away. If any girls are not going on camp, they can come to school as normal. Stations of the Cross will still be on at 3:00pm Friday.

Confirmation Classes

Classes begin 3.30pm Tuesday March 8th at the Meeting Room at Holy Spirit, Lavington. If there are sufficient numbers from Jindera the classes will be held at SMMC hall after school. Confirmation will be on Sunday 22nd May with Bishop Hanna at Holy Spirit, Lavington. Please contact Fr Murphy on 02 60251784. Just to clarify, Sacrament Programs are not run by the school. They are run at a Parish Level and are the responsibility of the parents. We will assist the process through advertising in our newsletter. We will keep any Confirmation Candidates in our prayers.

Mrs Therese Mott-Pekolj will undergo some routine surgery next week and will be away for rest of the term as of next Monday 7th March. Mrs Margaret Richardson will be stepping in to teach Mrs Mott’s classes for the remainder of the term. I’m sure we will make Mrs Richardson feel very welcome at SMMC and we look forward to having Mrs Mott back on board to begin Term 2.

BIPSA/BISSA Swimming

Well done to Hope Woods, Grace Woods and Sam Irwin who represented our school at the BIPSA Swimming Carnival in Wagga yesterday and to Matthew Woods, Tom Irwin, Daniel Buchanan and Joshua Wright who are swimming today in the BISSA Carnival, also in Wagga. Whatever their results, it is a great opportunity to be part of this level of competition. Thank you for representing our school.

We inducted our Year 11 Prefects last Friday at our School Assembly. They are already on the job and doing lots of things around our school to assist, most importantly acting as positive role models for the other students.

There has been lots of great stuff happening in the Science Room lately. The Yr 11 Biology Students had their excursion to Wonga Wetlands last week, while the Yr 9/10 students have been making red cabbage leaves indicator to measure pH levels. Lillian Murphy on the right is learning all about how a microscope works. In this picture, she is zoning in on some blood cells.

Hats – being Sun Smart!

Please assist your children in remembering to bring their hats to school. If students don’t have hats they will be asked to be in designated shaded areas. Thank you for your assistance!

Working with Children’s Check

If parents are wanting to come and assist in classrooms listening to children read etc., it is advisable to get a Working with Children’s Check for volunteers. This is free of charge. Helping in classrooms would obviously be at the invitation of your child’s classroom teacher and you would be under their direction. Here is a link to a site which explains the process. http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/working-with-children/working-with-children-check

God Bless
