Lake MacKillop is up again! We thank God for this wonderful rain.
Congratulations
Mrs Barber had a beautiful baby boy on Tuesday. They named him Andrew Michael and he weighed a very healthy 3.4kg. From all reports Mum, bubs and the rest of the family are going well. We look forward to meeting Andrew sometime soon.
Parent Information Evening
On Thursday 9th June beginning at 7pm we will hold our Term Two Parent Evening. Mrs Maureen Coyne will be speaking on ‘Leadership in the Family’. Maureen has presented many different topics in her work with Family Education Victoria amongst other organisations. On Saturday 11th June from 10am – 1pm, Maureen will also be running a workshop for parents on the same theme. A flyer will be sent out shortly with more details. I really encourage you all to come along. The support we give our spouses and other couples is vital….and it should be a bit of fun. Wine and cheese will be the diet for Thursday night and morning tea and refreshments will be provided at the Saturday workshop. Unfortunately, I need to be away on my Principal Induction Course during these events, but I pray you all get a lot from them. If babysitting issues are going to prevent you being there, please get in touch so we can help arrange something and enable you to be here.
Our Lady Help of Christians Feast Day was suitably celebrated this past Tuesday. We had a beautiful Mass at 12pm followed by a procession to the Cemetery and then to the statue in our garden whilst praying the rosary. A very fitting way to honour Our Lady.
Thank you to the SRC for running a splendid café on Tuesday to help celebrate the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. For just $3 students were able to get a sausage in bread, 2 cookies and a hot chocolate – possibly 1970s prices! They raised a small amount of money from the day, but the focus was really on celebrating Mary as the patroness of our country. Thank you to all involved.
Sports Court
The long awaited Sports Court for SMMC has been ordered. It will all depend on the weather over the next few months, but most likely the works will not begin until August. I will keep you informed of any updates. $10 000 was generously donated by the P&F last year towards this project and this year’s Saint Mary MacKillop Gala Dinner proceeds will go towards the court also.
Fete Subcommittee Meeting
Yesterday we held our first Fete Subcommittee Meeting. Thank you to those parents who were able to come along and for taking on roles. Most urgently we need 2 more volunteers to make follow up phone calls to businesses who have been asked to donate some prizes for the ‘Spinning Wheel’ on fete day. This involves ringing the business to see if they are willing to donate and then picking up any donations made. You don’t need to work alone, so feel free to team up with someone else. Please call the office if you can assist with this important task. Our next Fete Subcommittee Meeting will be held on Wednesday 15th June at 2:30pm in the Library. Please come along if you can. Your ideas and support are much appreciated.
Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to Canberra
Please consider heading to Canberra this weekend for a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage in honour of Our Lady Help of Christians to pray for Australia and especially its Government. See flyer sent home in previous newsletters for more details or give us a call at school.
Uniform
Please check you have the correct uniform for your children. There seems to be many items going to the wrong houses at present. It is important that uniforms are clearly labelled please!
Signing students in and out
Just a gentle reminder to please ensure that if you bring your children to school late or take them early, it is required that your sign them in and/or out. There are clipboards in the office for this purpose. In the case where the office is not ‘manned’, the clipboards will be left outside the office on the table for your convenience. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Enjoy the rest of the week. I might see you in Canberra!
God Bless
Luke Burton
(Principal)
