Week 4 Term 3, 2021 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Mt Tabor is the traditional site of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Though it looks more like a large hill than a mountain, it is a prominent landmark jutting up from an otherwise flat plain, not far from Nazareth. Lavish mosaics adorn the interior of the church built on the place where Jesus was transfigured in the presence of Peter, James and John, granting visitors a glimmer of the unearthly display witnessed by the apostles.

Today’s feast has indeed been a lavish, mountaintop experience at SMMC. In addition to the Transfiguration, students have honoured our school patron, St Mary MacKillop, whose feast is commemorated on Sunday. The school day began with displays of devotion throughout the beautiful Mass attended by all staff and students, as well as many parents.

In the lead up to today’s celebration, many students have honoured St Mary MacKillop by creating models, poems, drawings and other artistic and literary displays. Like the mosaics on Mt Tabor, in their humility, they offer a glimpse of heavenly delights. A colourful paella lunch and primary concert have helped to mark the day with style.

I would like to thank parents and teachers for their creative assistance. In particular I would like to thank Miss Maclean for organising the concert, Mrs Galvin for the artistic competition and Mr Williams for lunch.

Finally, I would also like to thank members of the School Advisory Council who have organised tomorrow’s Gala Dinner. It promises to be another great community-building occasion.

Warm regards,

Ian Smith
