Dear Members of our Community of Faith,

The weeks are certainly flying by with enough on to keep us well and truly out of trouble. I hope your Lent has begun well as we strive to use this time to improve ourselves personally and spiritually.

Swimming Carnival

The way our students conducted themselves at last week’s swimming carnival was exceptional. We continue to build up a great culture of support for all students, which assists in everyone being very willing to get in the pool and have a go, which is great to see. At the end of the day St Francis of Assisi won the day with 1261 points ahead of St John Bosco on 1124. Well done! There were 52 records set on the day (some due to new age categories). Congratulations to our age champions; 5/6/7 – Carlos Patino-Tsolakis and Catherine Suttie; 8/9s – Joseph Von Marburg and Eve Woods; 10/11s – Xander Saliba and Rose Woods; 12/13 Primary Boy – Augustine von Marburg; 13/14 High School – Franz von Marburg; 12 G – Giselle Dawson; 13 G – Lucy Wright; 14 G – Hope Woods; 15/16s – Max von Marburg and Claudia McLeod; Open – Matthew Woods and Lucy von Marburg. Well done to all students who got in the pool and gave their best efforts for their team.

Classroom Information Sessions

It was great to see parents who were able to make the classroom information sessions last Monday. If you missed these sessions and would like to catch up with your child’s teacher, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Also if you have any feedback re the night (e.g. timing), please send me a quick email. We really want to promote a culture of the home and school working together for your children.

Secondary Retreat Days

This week the secondary students were involved in a retreat with Verbum Dei Missionaries, which I hope they found very valuable. They have learnt a great method of praying with the scriptures that I am sure will hold them in good stead. Thank you to Frances, Dan and Gabby for volunteering their time to be with us. God Bless you!

P&F Meeting

Thank you to the parents who made it along to our first P&F Meeting for the year last Thursday. We have committed funds to finishing the Hall Kitchen hopefully by mid-March and more shelving and Bibles for classrooms. Lots of great fundraising to happen across the year, so please get involved where you can. New ideas are always welcome.

Coles Sports for School

This promotion has started on 7th February and runs through until 3rd April. For every $10 spent at Coles you receive a ‘Sports Voucher’ that can count towards equipment and resources for our school. Please bring any vouchers you may have into the office.

Absences

If your child is absent from school please email the school to notify us office@smmc.nsw.edu.au with a reason for the absence (family, illness etc). If your child arrives after morning assembly (approximately 9:30am) or needs to leave school before 3.20pm please fill out the relevant sign in or sign out sheet in the school office. Accreditation standards for the school require written explanations of student absences from a parent.

School Fees will be issued within the next fortnight and School photos will be taken in Term 2 this year.

Enjoy the rest of the week! Don’t forget there is a Whole School Assembly after Mass next Friday 2nd March. All welcome.

God Bless, Luke Burton (Principal)
