Week 2 Term 4, 2021 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We have enjoyed the good fortune of staging important events during what turned out to be small windows of opportunity. The Graduation Dinner proved to be one of them. The sense of achievement and feeling of elation when school is done – permanently – is unmatched at that stage of life. HSC exams will commence in a few weeks and it is good for our Year 12s to know that the whole school community is behind them in prayer and moral support.

Another window of opportunity will see the incursion of Book Week next week; better late than never, as they say. Students have been working on their artistic entries and Mrs Mott will lead the parade of novel characters at Wednesday’s culminating event. It is all aimed at exciting a lifelong interest in the adventure of reading.

Many families are experiencing hardship at the hands of the coercive vaccine mandate. It is the sting in the covid dragon’s tail we didn’t want, but now, for school staff too, are forced to face squarely. More will be known about what the mandate will mean in the next week or so. Whatever the outcome, it will be a window of opportunity to demonstrate kindness and gentleness.

Warm regards

Ian Smith

Principal

Thank you

A big thank you to Ash Irwin for laying a new slab inside the school garden shed.  It is a wonderful improvement, making the shed far more fitting for storing garden tools.

Book Week

SMMC will be holding Book Week (take 2) in the week of Monday 18th October.  There will be a parade for Primary students on the Wednesday of that week.  On the day of the parade, primary students are invited to dress up in a costume that reflects the Book Week theme of ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’. Secondary students can wear an accessory with their uniform on the day as well if they wish.

2022 Enrolments

Thank you to those families who have registered their interest in enrolling their child/ren as new students in 2022.  Orientation dates will be confirmed in the next few weeks with all families who have accepted an offer of enrolment.  If you have not yet registered your interest for enrolment for your child next year, please contact the school office.
