Dear Members of our Community of Faith,

I hope your week has been an enjoyable one. The cooler weather has finally arrived and I am enjoying having the lovely yellow box ticking away in the fire at home.

Tomorrow we have our Cross Country event at the Jindera Golf Course. Students are to come to school dressed in their winter uniform and bring their sports uniform to change into after Mass please. If you are able to help out at all by being stationed at a checkpoint around the course, please let us know. We have a bus booked to leave SMMC at 11:30am. We also need some parents to transport the remaining children as the bus won’t hold all of us. Let us know after Mass tomorrow if you can help out. We will return to school around 2:30pm. Parents are more than welcome to run the course if they are feeling fit. Looking forward to a great event. BISSA Cross Country will be run in Griffith next Monday 9th May. Please see Mr Couture if your child competes well tomorrow and you are able to transport them to Griffith on Monday. The BIPSA Cross Country will be run at the Jindera Golf Course next Friday 13th May.

Mother’s Day Raffle and Cake Stall

We have our Mother’s Day Cake Stall coming up this Saturday 7th May. This is part of the first P&F fund raising effort for the year, so we look forward to selling lots of yummy cakes on the day. Plates in plastic bags have been sent home today with the students, so your cooking efforts would be much appreciated ready for the stall on Saturday. If you need more than one plate, please get your children to get some extras from the office. Cakes can be brought to the school on Friday afternoon or dropped off directly to the stall on Saturday morning. Thank you in advance. A last call for any Raffle Tickets also! This will be drawn at the conclusion of the Cake Stall. Thanks so much for your support.

School Photos

Thanks to Mrs Mott for taking our school photos on Tuesday. We also had a whole school photo which will hopefully be blown up and displayed somewhere prominent within the school. These photos will be available in a few weeks’ time. If you haven’t yet put your order form in, then please do so.

Scarves

It certainly is cooling down this week, so it’s time to prepare for winter and get a personalised SMMC Scarf (child’s name and school emblem) to counteract the chilly days ahead. Please let Fiona in the office know if your child would like a scarf and send $5 in a clearly labelled envelope.

Working Bee

Thank you to the small crew who came to help out at our Working Bee last Saturday. The rain held off just enough to allow us to do a big clean out of the shed. We envisage being able to set up the shed in order to run some woodworking classes among other things. Thanks to the hardworking team who scrubbed the chairs in the hall also – a huge job that is much appreciated.

Thank you

A big thank you to Erin Horsfall who helped out most Fridays in Term 1 in the Year 1/2 Classroom. Erin completed the LEM Phonics Course with us in January and then volunteered her time to support Mr Flores in implementing this Programme in the Year 1/2 Classroom. Erin is currently on a placement for her Speech Pathology Course and we wish her all the best. Come back any time!

NAPLAN

NAPLAN Tests will be conducted next week for our Years 3,5,7 and 9 students. Tuesday is Language Conventions and Writing, Wednesday is Reading and Thursday is Numeracy. These assessments are not meant to cause anxiety for students and we only ask they get in and do their best. The assessments are a snapshot of the children’s skills at a certain point in time, not a summation of their overall academic ability. Please come and see your child’s teacher or myself if you have any questions about NAPLAN.

Have a great finish to the week!

God Bless

Luke Burton
