Dear Members of our Community of Faith,

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you enjoyed the break with your families and are ready for the term ahead. Whilst last term was somewhat of a marathon, this term will be more like a sprint, with only 8 weeks after this short week! We are looking forward to continuing to build on our learning and teaching from Term 1.

ANZAC Day

Thank you to all those students and their families who were able to attend the ANZAC Service in Jindera on Monday to pay respects to all the men and women who have given service to our country and to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice with their life. Johanna Ryan and Tom Van Der Horst laid a wreath on behalf of the school. Lest We Forget.

Mother’s Day Raffle and Cake Stall

We have our Mother’s Day Cake Stall coming up on Saturday 7th May. This is the part of the first P&F fund raising effort for the year, so we look forward to selling lots of yummy cakes on the day. Please see attached note with the details. Plates in plastic bags will be sent home next week with the students, so your cooking efforts would be much appreciated later next week. Thank you in advance. Please keep selling the Raffle Tickets also!

SMMC Cross Country

Our school Cross Country event will be held next Friday 6th May at the Jindera Golf Course (please be assured there will be no golf in progress during this time!). Distances run will be: 5/6/7s – 1500m; 8/9/10s – 2000m; 11/12/13s – 3000m; 14/15s – 4000m; Girls 16/17 – 4000m; Boys 16/17 – 6000m. If you are able to help out on this day, please let us know. We will need parents to be on certain checkpoints around the course. Looking forward to a great event.

School Photos

Next Tuesday 3rd May Mrs Mott will be behind the camera once again photographing our super students. School photo forms went home yesterday, so please have a read, fill in and return to the school by next Tuesday. Students are to be in full winter uniform please. Thank you to Mrs Mott for providing this service.

Working Bee

This Saturday 30th May we have a working bee at SMMC starting at 9am. There are lots of jobs to be done, so please get along and help out where you can. Thank you in advance. We will hold a BBQ at 12pm as usual.  A big thank you to any of our families who did jobs at school over the holidays too.

Scarves

This warmth can’t last forever, so it’s time to prepare for winter and get a personalised SMMC Scarf (child’s name and school emblem) to counteract the chilly mornings that lie ahead. Please let Fiona in the office know if your child would like a scarf and send $5 in a clearly labelled envelope.

Farewell

Miss Jessica Godwin will be finishing up at SMMC towards the end of this term. She is heading off indefinitely to travel around the UK and all those other wonderful places which are only a hop, step and jump from there. We wish her all the best in her endeavours and will miss her being a part of the team at SMMC. We thank her for her service to the school and look forward to spending the next 8 weeks in her company before she heads off.

CPR Course

At our Staff Development Day on Monday, all staff undertook a course in CPR as part of the ongoing updates required in this area. It was a very practical and engaging course and while we hope to never have to use it, it’s good to be trained and ready if need be.

Have a great finish to the week!

God Bless

Luke Burton
